back from the Voltron
by TimTab on Jan.31, 2010, under Miscellaneous
hey oh,
just got back from Cali where I had an awesome time with a great bunch of photographers. I attended a workshop with Jeff Newsom in his home in San Luis Obispo… learned a lot, was inspired, and came out of it refreshed and energized – ready to rock this upcoming wedding season. Check out Jeff’s post about our workshop… see me in some of those shots?
Anyways, we did a bit of shooting after the workshop was over… and I took my 5d mkii out for a bit of night shooting for the first time… all but one of these shots are tripodless.
here is a bit of light writing done with my iphone… I was kindly told I looked like the star wars kid while I doing my moves here. Pride -> shattered.

this beauty was hand held – 24mm @ f/1.4 & 1/4 sec ISO4000

24mm @ f/1.4 & 0.6sec ISO4000

24mm @ f/1.4 & 0.5 sec ISO6400

and this shot involved me practically falling off of a cliff into the pacific trying to get a cool shot of Michael Steingard

perhaps more to come…
Eric & Brook – Married in Oak Brook
by TimTab on Jan.25, 2010, under Weddings
I think Eric and Brook win the classiest wedding of the year award… at least in my book.
Everything was beautiful and well thought out, and they couldn’t have been more fun to work with!!!
Here are some pics…

I was digging the classy getaway rides!

we then all shot over to the Grau Mill – Fullersburg Woods Preserve for the photo-shoot

and then then off to the Hinsdale Golf Club for the reception… a lovely place for a reception.

And my fave of the day…

and the cake was absolutely luscious! Eating cake is always one of the highlights for any wedding I attend!

Meg & Brian’s Wedding!
by TimTab on Jan.22, 2010, under Weddings
Hey all,
I am writing here from Houston where I will be shooting Jake and Whitney’s Wedding tomorrow. It’s sunny, warm… beautiful… I actually jumped into the pool here and it was life changing. I’m not sure why people populate the Midwest… so cold!
I am still trying to catch up with blogging all of the weddings I shot last summer. Here are a few high lights from Meg & Brian’s wedding.

and for something a bit more experimental…

and a bit of a tamer version of the same thing…

Brian, looking real groom-y

did I ever mention how much I dig those little half-veils? high class…

and a few from the reception

Meg and her dad cracked me up here as they broke into an air guitar solo right in the middle of their dance!

oh, btw, Merry Christmas… and a happy new year!
by TimTab on Jan.05, 2010, under Miscellaneous
I just had to get in the season spirit soonner or later… I figured If I wished you all my finest season greetings now, it would just extend the christmas spirit a tad longer. Here is what I sent out to the social networking world… I figured there was room for this on the blog.Sidenote: we aren’t girly enough to actually print out christmas cards… so this digital card is as good as it gets from us.
My roommates and I share a house which is officially called the French Quarters… a name we took to heart.
from left – Paul (my older brother), Andrew, and Me

no glasses left for me… but all is good… I have a cigar to chew.

In case you didn’t know, I’ve been in France for a couple of weeks now visiting my folks and sibs… here are a few shots I took around here.
left to right – Luc & Marc (french spelling of the names, digg it) – twins

Luc is an apprentice Butcher and professional Caterer. Marc is an apprentice Dental Prosthetician… they turn 19 this June! For the Win!

Local shrubs make for good texture every now and then

my cousin’s wife Harmonie, and their one year old daughter Elena.

a little upside down shout out to Cartier Bresson’s man jumping over the water at least sort of

Anna, me lil sis, a great model to go on a walk with!

and Marc, on the same dirt road by our house.

and Jenny, me youngest sis… doing her thing!!! She is quite the rocking singer/songwriter…

and the whole family was together once again… (credit here goes to mom’s new camera)

Joan & Jerry – Wedded in Wheaton
by TimTab on Jan.04, 2010, under Weddings
Remember Joan & Jerry’s Engagement shoot back last spring… well here are a few shots from their wedding!!! I didn’t mention this in my last post about them, but Jerry and I go far back… sort of. Jerry and I were friends back freshman year of high school and we met as we both attended Wheaton North High School. My family was in america only for a year before we went back to France, so I soon lost contact with him (this was in the pre facebook era)… and almost a decade later, his fiancée finds me on google!! haha, the world is freakishly small at times. It took us a little time to figure out that we knew each other back in the day… but seriously — how weird is that?
enough talkin’… more picture postin’

Joan’s mother’s first glance at her all bridaled up! (is that a word? it is now I guess…)

They got married at the Blanchard Alliance Church in Wheaton, which is a stone throw away from my apartment! I like it when I can travel to weddings by foot… its green! (although I did end up driving… eco-friendliness fail)

I wasn’t going to post group shots… but this one was ever so slightly Epic! I believe that was a shout out to the kind of pop… but then again, Jerry might just have been innovating.

they got hitched and went into hiding downstairs… where I followed to stalk some more.

I soon realized I was digging the harsh lighting in this stairwell…. so when the party went on ahead we stayed behind to snap a few shots

we then went off to Cantigny Park where we ran into a few other parties… haha… awkward?

mad props to Jerry for being insanely good at making Joan laugh/smile/happy!

As you might know… I think its important to get at least one really good clean shot of the two of them looking straight into the camera. One that grandma will want… but that everyone will like as well! This is that shot for the day

then back to the Cantigny Golf Club for the reception just as the set behind the head table… swank.

They then surprised us all with a bit of salsa dancing right in the middle of their first dance.

Tcha Tcha real smooth… Can you get down low, all the way to the flo’?

then a bit of chaos as they all prepared for the sparkler exit…

FAVE OF THE DAY (and last shot of the day) all lit by sparklers…

before and after… on the way back from Lake Geneva, WI
by TimTab on Dec.09, 2009, under Before and After
Hurrah… Second ever before and after! Once again… All without the help of photoshop! Lightroom is the bee’s knees!! (do bees have knees? what kind of an expression is that?)
I was just rummaging through an old hard drive today when I cam across this raw file I took on my way back from Lake Geneva, WI last year. My brother has a pimpin’ 98′ VW Cabrio (convertible) which makes summer road trips the best thing ever! With the hood down… its easy to capture shots like this at sunset…
Canon 30D ISO160 17mm f/2.8 @1/250th

right… not all that interesting… but that’s the beauty of RAW files.
I applied the following settings in lightroom -

and I then applied a gradient mask on the sky like this

and another mask on the road at the bottom with these settings

and voila!!!

I hope you guys digg it! Let me know if this is helping anyone… anyone? … anyone? … Bueler? Bueler…. Bueler?
(I know, bueler joke is clichée … but I do what I want!)
Chicago Wedding Photographer – Teaser – Dan & Kristin
by TimTab on Dec.04, 2009, under Miscellaneous
I am really loving these three pics from Dan & Kristin’s post wedding shoot in the city! Just thought I’d share them with you now rather than in 6 weeks!

Beth & Joel – joined in holy matrimony
by TimTab on Dec.03, 2009, under Weddings
It’s snowing outside… and here I am posting another wedding from this past summer. What can I say… I’ve been busy… at this rate I should have content to post all winter long! I shot Beth and Joel’s Engagement pictures this past spring… and had the honor of capturing their wedding in photographs.
Since I’m a photographer, and not as much of a writer… here are some pics!

I love this shot of Beth… so much fun!

FAVE OF THE DAY!

Joel, throwing one last glance my way for the night… he must have known I was honing in on them!

Beth & Joel, you guys are the sizzle!!! Thank you so much for letting me be a part of your grand day! twas a party!
